I like to do craft activities and enjoy doing crochet, which is a bit like knitting. I make blankets and other items as presents for my friends and family. My next project is to crochet myself a jumper.
I love reading books. At the moment I am really enjoying reading lots of non-fiction books.
I volunteer as a Brownie leader in Newcastle.
I enjoy listening to music and sometimes like to have a dance around my kitchen.
I enjoy cooking and baking. One of my favourite things to bake are snickerdoodles, which are a type of American biscuit. Delicious!

In the laboratory, I do my experiments which usually means I mix together two or more chemicals in a flask overnight. Most of the time, the experiments work, but sometimes they don’t. When they don’t work, I have to try and work out what has happened.
Some of the experiments I have done as a research chemist have given me very pretty colours.
At the moment, I am also leading a team of other research chemists working on my project. This means that I also have a lot of emails to write and every two weeks, we have a video call with our customer.

My Typical Day:
In the morning, I get up at 5:30am. I have my breakfast and drive about 30 minutes to work.
I start work at 7am. When I get to work, I have to put my safety shoes and safety glasses on. I go into the lab. I put my lab coat on and do my experiments.
When it’s lunchtime, I eat my lunch with my work friends. Sometimes we sit outside in the sunshine.
I go back into the lab after lunch at do more experiments and check my results from earlier in the day.
Usually I go home at 3pm, but sometimes it’s a bit later.

I get to the lab at 7am and I check any experiments that were running overnight. I do some purification which means that I clean the mixture I get from the experiment. This makes sure that we remove anything that we don’t want.
Every two weeks on a Monday, I have a video call with my team and our customer. In this video call, we tell the customer about our progress. This means if we are having problems with our experiments, they can help us.
Usually I have my lunch at 12pm and sometimes I sit outside in the sunshine with my friends.
In the afternoon, I go back into the lab to write in my lab book and do some more experiments before it’s time to go home at 3pm.
I usually do about 2 experiments per day, but sometimes it’s more and sometimes less.
