I’m a Science Explainer at Life Science Centre. Before I worked here, I studied Geology (which is about the Earth and its history) and Palaeontology (a science about extinct creatures like dinosaurs) at university. When I’m not at work, I enjoy finding new fossils for my collection, as well as reading, cooking, playing video games and board games, and spending time with my cat.

My job is all about getting people excited about science. There are so many amazing discoveries being made all the time, and I love being able to share all the incredible facts I’ve learned with everyone else!

My Typical Day:
No two days are the same! Sometimes I’ll be taking people on a space mission in the science theatre, other times I’ll be helping a class turn weetabix and banana into poo!

My days typically start with a cup of coffee and a short drive to the science centre, but from there no two days are ever the same! Some days I’ll be helping people find their way around our exhibits, other days I’ll be running workshops for visiting schools groups, and other days I might be in the theatre performing a live science show. I really enjoy spending time in our Making Studio, helping people to create anything from a bug hotel to a moon buggy!

Education:
I studied a degree in Geology at the University of Leeds, then a masters degree in Palaeobiology at the University of Bristol.
-
Work History:
Before I worked at the Centre for Life I worked in the North Pennines, the area of hills to the west of Newcastle. The region is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and a UNESCO Global Geopark (which means the rocks there tell a really interesting story). My job was all about sharing that amazing story with other people!
