I have a dog called Olive who escapes from the garden a lot. I like to surf when I get the chance. I absolutely love cake and coffee. When I was 22 I spent 9 months travelling round the world by myself and it was the scariest and best thing I’ve ever done.

I run computer simulations of how the Earth changes shape under surface loading. Imagine that the Earth is a balloon filled with syrup or treacle, if you prod it with your finger you will change the shape! This is what happens when large ice sheets, like the one in Antarctica, shrinks – it is like taking a load off the balloon and it changes shape in response! I try and model this using computer models.

My Typical Day:
A typical day involves logging into a computer, sometimes in my office at work, and sometimes from home. If I am in the office I get together with colleagues at 11am for a coffee and a chat.

Since my work is mostly done on computers I have the flexibility to work wherever I want to. Sometimes this is from home and sometimes in the office! I live quite far from where I work so sometimes it is nice to have a lie in and work at home. I tend to spend time reading new science articles, occasionally writing my own, and running computer simulations.
