Junk food tends not to contain many nutrients. It also tends to have a large amount of calories and fat. So it fills us up, but doesn’t give us much benefit. Its called junk food because from a food point of view, that’s what it is, junk.
As Deborah said, it doesn’t contain any nutrients. This means that it can’t really offer your body anything good. For example if we have an orange, it contains lots of vitamin c which can help us with our immune system, our digestive system and give us good skin. On the other hand, chocolate doesn’t have anything that will benefit your body in any way.
There is a trend of “healthy junk food” nowadays though. Those are things that may be similar to junk food but come from healthier sources so they may have something that may benefit your body.
