Plasma is what we call a ‘phase’ of a material. Phases that you’ve probably heard of include solids, liquids and gases. As you heat up a solid it melts to make a liquid. Heat it up further and you evaporate the liquid to make a gas. If you continue heating, you actually end up stripping the electrons from the atoms of the gas, and what is left we call a plasma. It’s basically one big, charged gas/liquid mixture of electrons and ions (ions are atoms with no electrons).
Plasma is actually the phase that most things come in, as it is the most abundant phase that we see in the universe (of the ones that we can see). Humans have found lots of ways to generate plasma. For example the light in neon signs is generated by the plasma that is flowing within the glass tubes!
