This stands for Intense Pulsed Light. It’s basically a flashlamp and produces a really bright flash of light. The light is absorbed by melanin pigment and blood vessels in the skin and can be used like skin laser treatments. We happen to have one in our department, but it doesn’t really get used.

It’s ok for hair reduction, thread veins and sun-damage but not as good as our lasers for most things.
