• Question: what is a thisis im so confused :(

      It’s a big piece of writing you do to sum up all the work you have done in your PhD, before you can be a “Dr”.
      It takes very similar form to the type of practical write up you would do at school… predictions, method, results, analysis, evaluation, but it also has to have a sort of storyline. And they are about 120 pages long (or more)…

      I think the biggest thing I wrote at school was called a portfolio, which is similar in its nature. We don’t get an exam in the same way at the end of a PhD, so all of our work has to go into the thesis.

      Yes, it’s a big report that tells everyone what you spent 3 years of your life learning about. There were also some good answers to a similar question a couple of days ago: http://ias.im/91.73

      Once you’ve finished, some experts in whatever you’ve researched read it and then spend some time quizzing you about what you did and why you did it. Then you get to put Dr in front of your name. 🙂
