When I was 16, I thought that I wanted to be a weather forecaster, so chose science subjects to study at the Scottish equivalent of A-levels. Once I’d been at university for a couple of years, it was obvious to me that I was more interested in optics and I’ve ended up doing that for the past few years.
The best advice that I could give is to do something that you’re interested in. If you are interested in whatever you end up doing, you will enjoy doing it and it won’t seem as difficult to do.

Completely agree with Tim. Just do what you are interested in, and then you’ll end up doing a job which you find interesting (if you’re lucky enough)!

We get a few people here who work for 6 weeks over their University holidays. That’s a nice way of finding out a bit more about a particular career and probably looks good on a CV. We also do 1 day visits for 16 year-olds, but it’s difficult to give a full flavour in such a short time.

Pay more attention at university and don’t just cram for exams, try to remember stuff!! And enjoy independent learning because you will need it in science.
