Humans would not die out, although we would find it hard to live in the colder climates or produce enough food for everybody without enough fuel.

There are viable alternatives to energy production out there, such as nuclear power, which could tie us over for some time – but they all have their costs and risks.

Oil is so important for our civilisation today that we’ll be in trouble when it runs out. It’s not just used for fuel, but also making plastics and all sorts of other useful chemicals. When the raw materials on the earth run out, humans will have to work out ways to survive without them. We might mine the wastedumps that we’ve already created to reuse what people in the past threw away, or we will have to get used to having less stuff.
The big issue will be food production because there is a lot of fuel and energy needed to get food into your fridge at home.
I don’t know how we’ll solve these problems, but its yours and my generation that will need to take some pretty action to do it.
