Most of the lasers target a particular pigment in the skin. This pigment absorbs most of the energy and usually the thing we are trying to get rid of is damaged by heating (either slowly, like cooking it, or fast – causing it to explode). It is important to make sure you use a laser which damages only the bit you want to, and not the rest of the skin in the area you are treating.
