      Pairs of particles of matter and antimatter appearing from the vacuum, then colliding back, and giving their energy back to the vacuum, where it was borrowed from anyway.

      Particles can randomly appear anywhere, as long as they disappear again quickly enough! They’re always popping into and out of existence, just like the foamy bubbles in your bath – hence the name!
