Tears are salty because most of the fluid in the rest of our bodies are salty. Normally (I hope!) you don’t taste the liquids the might come out of you 😕 but tears can sometimes reach your tongue so you notice the saltiness. A small amount of salt is your body is helpful because it kills bad bacteria, carries useful vitamins and minerals and stops us getting dehydrated.
