Question: How do you stick the tags on the birds? Do you catch them then stick them on?

  yes! We use mist nets – so called because they are thin and stretchy – to catch the birds, and then when we have put a tiny metal ring on their leg we stick the tag on their back, or onto their tails. We’re really careful because some birds are small and delicate, so it is really important we get it right when we apply tags. But the tags are really tiny too, and we watch the birds when we release them to make sure they’re not injured.
