As a child, I wanted to be an astronaut – that time space travel was discussed a lot in India. But, later in my PUC, I got interested in biology.

I don’t think so! I remember when I was about 11/12 wanting to be a vet, but then I actually really don’t think i can cope with the sight of blood so i wouldn’t have been any good!
I also really loved graphic design and did it for A-level – I thought I would like to work for Disney or someone in animation but in the end i realised i was much more passionate about the environment. Plus, getting in to that sort of thing is very competitive and I thought if I went to university and did environmental studies, which is what i did, that it would open up more opportunities for me….which it did!

When I was younger I wanted to be a primary school teacher, but then when I was in my second year at uni (so around 19/20 years old) I fell in love with science! I also get to do some teaching alongside my job which I enjoy, so I get the best of both worlds 🙂

I suppose that I did. I really wasn’t sure what I would do. I liked cars and planes when I was a child and building things. I did not think that I would do it as a job. I did like science at school but again did not know that I’d end up doing it for a living.

I knew I liked science because I thought learning about how the world works was really cool. I was always curious. But I really latched onto the idea of science when I watched a lot of Mythbusters as a kid – the idea that you can test things, run experiments to prove things right or wrong, really captured my imagination.

No, I wanted to be a journalist! I didn’t even really consider myself a scientist until quite recently – more just a techie!

I’ve always liked science but I wasn’t sure if I wanted to be a scientist, or do something completely different like a lawyer. My chemistry teacher helped me get excited about science and I’m so pleased I decided to choose it as a career

I always wanted to understand how things work. Learning how to make and test hypotheses is a great way.

Yes, I first had an inkling that science was for me in secondary school. I particularly enjoyed Biology lessons and practical’s and went on to study Microbiology in University. I am now a Molecular Microbiologist and have enjoyed my career journey so far.
