I think I started training to be a scientist even before I realised! I had a very good primary school teacher who absolutely loved science, and that probably rubbed off quite a lot on me. Going through Secondary School I kept enjoying science classes and eventually when it came to choosing subjects for A levels I had realised that’s the kind of think I’d like to do more of!

I think I like science so much because it helps me make sense of the world around me. It explains (or tries to) why things happen and what things are made of.

You’re always training to be a scientist. Even when you are one, you never stop learning.

I like it so much because I’m unstoppably curious, I want to know everything, and science helps me explain what I see.

Hmm. tricky. Being a scientist means you really do need all the (or at least most of the) science you learn at school – so everyone at school has already started their training to be a scientist… then it’s just a question of keeping going! Studying it at A-level and then your degree is the next step… then you have to do what’s called a phd (another 3 years at uni) and then you’re a qualified academic scientist… but as Steve says, you still keep on learning all the time. And that’s probably why i like science so much!
