Dreaming is still an active area of research – the more scientists study it the more important it seems to be to our wellbeing!
They’ve scanned people’s brains when they’re asleep & dreaming and they look just as active as they do when we’re awake – so all your brain cells are firing and you’re experiencing something that feels real (which is what dreaming is like)… at the same time your body paralyses you so don’t move around when you’re dreaming which can be dangerous… in some people, this paralysis doesn’t happen and that’s what sleepwalking is.
Dreaming is a very distinct form of sleep though and scientist can tell by brain scans exactly when you dream. You can even download apps now that tell you if you’re dreaming!
