• Question: In your opinion, what are the things that differentiate a normal scientist from a good scientist? Do you think you are a good scientist?

      Haha! I like this question, because we recently had a talk by the head of our University about this. Scientists have to get used to failure, but experiments nearly ALWAYS go wrong. She said, a good scientist will have 2 % of experiments that work, and a great scientist will have 5 % of experiments which work…! That’s still really low! So I would say that a good scientist is one which doesn’t give up if things don’t go their way. I’d like to think I’m a good one.

      I would say a good scientist is someone who listens to others, who shares and listens to advice. Being methodical and persistent are also good qualities. Problem solving is a great skill to have as a scientist, its almost a guarantee that things wont go right first time, therefore knowing were you went wrong and what you need to change is really important.
