• Question: Has there been any important discoveries in the immune system this last few years

      Great question! There have been lots of discoveries. One of the coolest things is that we can take immune cells out of the body and ‘train’ them to attack cancer. We can then put them back in the body and, like secret agents with a special mission, they find the cancer and kill it. Amazing, huh?

      I think one of most important things we have discovered about the immune system in recent years is WHY organs get rejected if we transplant them from one person to another. It’s all about the immune system! That’s why organs have to match in certain ways before we can transplant them. With this knowledge we can transplant more organs into people who really need them.
