• Question: Why is the result of cell division called 'daughter cells'?

      Hi,

      It is just the term used for cells arising from one cell after division. It could be ‘offspring’ rather than daughter cells I suppose but that is the term that is often used.

      Science exists within culture and I guess we often think of life as “female” so there is a great deal of mother/daughter terminology
