It is a bit of a myth that science is mostly great discoveries by single people. Mostly it is a step by step process where people slowly add to knowledge and understanding so we all contribute. There are some really famous scientists who made great leaps, but even they had other people they were influenced by.
even Sir Isaac Newton wrote that he got to where he was by “standing on the shoulders of giants”
In agreement with Noel about how not one of us can do our job without a whole lot of other people working hard before, during, and after our work.
Environmental scientists studying climate change and then working hard to COMMUNICATE their findings in an effective way (Check out the website of the University of Southampton National Oceanography Centre) really inspire me. I went to a climate science open day and I was blown away by the energy and enthusiasm people have, dedicating their lives to understanding how we can preserve our planet more effectively. I think we all have important jobs to play though- every piece of the puzzle works towards the bigger picture.
Cheers!
