Do they? I didn’t know that!

Does it derive from the time when barbers often used to be surgeons? That’s why barbershops often have a red and white striped pole outside (though less common today). In the good old days (even before my time), before the invention of anaesthetics, surgeons were prized for their speed (!) and many did not have a formal medical training (they were not doctors or physicians). Maybe the surgeons were licensed so they didn’t kill too many people, though they probably killed a lot – surgery was a very risky business before we understood much about how microorganisms can cause disease.

But I think I may have missed the point completely on this one… 😉

Look at the folk above. Imagine how much money and time they spend on grooming. Imagine Tom for example didn’t spend an enormous amount of his wages on it. Its TERRIBLY important we protect people like him from charlatans offering cheap haircuts. Notice as well that my 1’6″ mohican is hidden from the camera…..

So they don’t accidentally dye your hair purple?

I don’t know what the system for regulating hairdressers is, but I would like them to have some training before I let them loose on my impressive barnet. Or is there a punchline to this one?
