• Question: do you believe in a life after death.....?

      I don’t strictly believe in life after death, but I think that what we do in the world can live on in very simple and very profound ways, like how I bring my kid up, or whether I teach my students anything..etc. I suppose I believe in karma…

      No. I’ve never seen any evidence that makes me think people live on in some sense after they die. Of course, we do leave traces behind us when we die, for example, songs we write, phrases we coin, ideas we explain, books, friends and family whose lives we change; we can make a real difference in our lives and (in my opinion) we should try to change the world for the better, regardless of whether we believe there’s anything afterwards.

      I’d have to say I’m agnostic on that one: I don’t know, though I strongly suspect there isn’t life beyond the grave.

      However, I find the whole question of the existence of the universe completely mysterious. Whenever I start to think “Why is there not nothing? Where did all this stuff come from?” I usually find it quite dizzying. There is no satisfactory answer. Yes, I know about the Big Bang, but where did *that* come from? I think science will be able to probe that question more deeply than we have until now but suspect that a fundamental mystery will remain.

      If there is life after death, I do hope they have libraries (there’s so many books I’m never going to get around to reading in this life). And cinemas.

      Anna, this is a great question. For a long time i have been interested in Buddhism and they believe in reincarnation. I actually believe that your soul can continue on when your body dies. But because there is no scientific evidence for this yet it is difficult to give a scientific answer.

      I don’t think so, although I’m told that reincarnation is coming back….. 😉
