Several different groups around the world are starting to use the catshark as a model organism to understand basic biological principles, and even to model certain human diseases. A few of these groups are listed on the species page but if you want to see more about who is using the catshark and for what kind of research I suggest you use pubmed (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/) and just type in catshark or Scyliorhinus canicula to see how many different groups are using this organism for their research. All of these research projects are currently limited by the absence of a genome sequence and I am certain that many more research projects would begin once a genome sequence was available.
