Question: You all seem like great scientists and I am happy for whoever wins the £500! When you were in the year groups of learning science (maybe year 6 or year 7) did you decide straight away that you were going to be a scientist or did it take a lot of time to think about it?

  My grandad switched me on to science when I was about 10 years old. He was patient and knew how to inspire me and I remember trying to get to grips with the speed of light concept. He blew my mind! I guess I’ve never looked back since and have always been acutely aware that science is important, it helps us change the world we live in. My love of sport and science has led me into what I do today and I love it; it’s more a hobby than a job! This is why I think science teachers are so important in schools today; they have a huge responsibility switching our younger generation on. I wish my grandad was till alive today and I’d drive him to every science class!

  I actually only wanted to become a scientist when I had done my degree in Physiology! Which was about 2 years ago!
  At 11 years old, I actually wanted to be a pilot. But I’m so happy things turned out the way they did

  When I was studying my GCSE’s and A levels, we still studied individual science subjects, so I did biology and chemistry at GCSE’S and biology at A level. I still didn’t really know that I wanted to be a scientist until I got to University and I continued to study physiology for 3 years. This allowed me to learn so much about the subject, and I found it so fascinating, especially because I could relate it to how my body worked, that I knew this was something I would continue to do as a job.

  I didn’t decide I wanted to do research until I was in my 2nd year on university. While I was at school I just really liked human biology and PE.
