      hmmm… thats a difficult one.
Some experiments I like because they are interesting and give me exciting results. Others are boring and often don’t work.

My favourite experiment is one used to look if a protein I’m interested in attaches to DNA. Not all proteins can do this and those that do are important to helping cells stay healthy. So I enjoy finding out how a protein that attaches to DNA changes its behaviour when cells get sick or old.

I mainly carry out diagnostic work and cryopreservation but I sometimes do simple experiments to see how to get the best sperm sample after freezing.

In a previous job, I carried out experiments to see if a certain virus was present in blood donations. I did this by testing for certain antibodies and the presence of viral RNA.

Probably microscopy as you can see what is happening in real time in a cell. It’s pretty cool seeing things inside a cell move around is response to a drug treatment. I use a coloured probe to label the cell item I am interested in so I can see it down the microscope. Some of my recent microscope experiments have involved looking at the movement of mitochondria (the batteries of the cell) in response to different drug treatments.
