      They don’t exactly see – it’s more like sense what way to go because of chemical attraction.

      When the sperm are ejaculated with force, they begin swimming and leave the cervix and enter the womb, then swim towards the Fallopian tubes. Only 1 in 14 million sperm reach the Fallopian tubes, but once there, the sperm pick up a chemical signal from the egg to help them find their way. These signals attract the sperm to the egg – this is called chemotaxis.

      When the sperm get closer to the egg and push towards its “shell” (zona pellucida), may of them will bind to the shell but only 1 sperm will be allowed to go all the way through to reach the egg inside.
