I have asked this question so many times, and still haven’t got an answer!
I think that it might have come about because of natural instinct. Just like a human knows instinctively they need to eat food or drink water to live, they might have instinctively known they needed to reproduce to keep the human race going. It might have taken a bit of figuring out but as with all mammals and living things, they have to somehow reproduce to continue their species. Things have changed now, but that’s how I think it may have come about in the first place.
I agree with Laura but don’t forget humans didn’t just arrive on earth they evolved from very simple cellular organisms. Plants for example respond to light by moving toward the light source, fish release eggs into the water that are then fertilized by a male, males and females are attracted to each other by smells and physical changes or by complicated mating displays and then the same is true of humans. The basic instinct is to reproduce but as humans evolved it became more complex but it is instinctual.
