      Hi Eve,

This is a great question, and an important one too. I have to acknowledge here that I am a white female, in quite a privileged position. So I cant speak for all women, however I found breaking into science as a female interesting.

It is classically a male dominated industry, and when I started there were a lot of men in higher positions. But I’ve really seen this shift in the past few years, and there are ALOT of really incredible and very influential women in high up positions across the science industry and sectors. The change is happening and I’m really pleased!

But I do want to say that, never ever think that being a female will stop you from getting into science. If its what you love, you will make it regardless.

Often the journey as a researcher isn’t a straight forward one; there are ups and downs and your experiments don’t go to plan, you may face difficulties as a woman. But as with other aspects of life – as one door closes, so another one opens!
