I wanted to become a scientist because I found it interesting and I was lucky enough to get people to pay me to do something I basically pretty much enjoy.

I have achieved most of my career goals as a scientist. I have finally given up on the Nobel Prize as a dream! So currently I am just trying to be the best I can at what I do (no different from most jobs really). I guess recently I am enjoying doing more TV, radio and schools work – engaging with more people than just the university students I teach.

Oh – and I am not American. However, I moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania when I was 1 year old. When me and my two older brothers came back to Wales we were called Yankee, mini Yankee and little brother of mini Yankee. Guess which one was me!
