I do, because it has a bit of everything.

You get to do experiments and build things, do a bit of maths and computing when you analyse your results, talk to people and work in a team, teach students in the lab and by lecturing, write papers and reports, give presentations in your department, in scholls and all round the world at conferences.

You also get to find out things that nobody has known before, which is a little scary when you can’t check if your answer is right or not, but ultimately very rewarding.

I think being a scientist is the perfect job for me at the moment because I enjoy it and find it interesting. I also enjoy the freedom you have as a scientist, you can really choose to study anything you want (within reason). It might not be the perfect job for someone else because they may be interested in different things.

I don’t think it is the PERFECT job – it could be improved. But I am lucky. I know I am lucky, I have done lots of other jobs and this is a very good one!

I think we should all have a good understanding of the scientific viewpoint. But there is no single job called “a scientist”. I have done different jobs as a scientist, some more perfect than others.

My current job is great as a university professor gives me a lot of freedom and I like it a lot. But a Professor of English might say the same thing!

Basically science has been good to me in most of my jobs !
