• Question: why are you a scientist?

      I was always interest in science, even as a small boy. There were terrific books for children about astronomy, the origins of the earth, dinosaurs. I loved them, and always went first to the science articles in the encyclopaedias we’d buy from year to year at the supermarket, once volume each week. I’m ashamed to say, I once read that only five people understood Einstein’s Theory of Relativity and (at age nine) wondered who the other four were!

      Hi @plakjhyer123,
      Thank you for your interesting question and it was one that I had to think a little about before I answered it. I, like Michael, have always had an interest in science and the world around me. I love finding out new things but, I would honestly say that it was my chemistry teacher in High School who inspired me to be a scientist – she also helped me to balance chemical equations! She made be believe that it was possible for me to be a scientist in the future. I’d like to say that I look at the world as a scientist by always asking questions and then looking for evidence. I believe that I will call myself a scientist forever even when I’m retired and living in Italy with plenty of chickens.

    I am a scientist becasue i enjoy learning about how things work and in particular how the body works. Knowing how the body works when it is healthy will allow us to make better medicine for when we become ill.
