      Hi @jrandall and @Will Grange,
      Thank you for your interesting question. Inflammatory molecules have an important role in inflammation(which is our bodies response to harmful stimuli, e.g., its ability to fight diseases, remove damaged/dead cells or fight chemical or environmental irritants). Production of inflammatory molecules occurs in either response to inflammation or due to long term inflammation like in the case of obesity. I look at the levels of inflammatory molecules in the blood to see if I can see trends in obese individuals compared to normal people and this is important in fighting against diseases, e.g., cancer, diabetes and/or cardiovascular disease.
