So there are a couple of ways to reply to your question. Firstly, if you want to be practical, being a scientist or having a PhD will help you develop a career in many areas besides working in a lab. However, I would say it helps more importantly because you learn: how to work hard but enjoy it, how to be critical about your work and others’ (in a good way), how to work in a team, how to talk in public…and then in my case because I do microdissection it helps doing delicate things like miniatures or other DIY.
