• Question: Is it hard to be a scientist??

      Being a scientist is hard, as you have to keep up to date on all of the recent publications in your field, and sometimes there can be quite a few on a weekly, if not daily basis. You have to be able to think for yourself and make decisions sometimes on the spot. But it is also hugely rewarding too.

      It is! But most jobs are hard. When you’re a scientist the most difficult challenges are dealing with rejections, with long days of work, and sometimes with the fact that our ideas were wrong or our experiments didn’t work. But there are so many positive aspects, and if you’re passionate about science the hard bits become manageable.

      It can be sometimes if we end up with a difficult patient or result. The hours can sometimes be long and the on-call can be demanding. The on-call is where I do into work within a 24 hour period at any time when a donor is offered to a patient. This can mean you can have multiple donor offers in a 24 hour period and you are by yourself doing the work. This can be demanding at times. I think it is how you as a person deals with the demands of the job and make sure you also enjoy your life. Have a work-life balance.

      It is, but most jobs are hard if you want to be good in whatever you are doing. The key is to never give up, work hard and trust the effort you put into learning things. 🙂

      It can be hard trying to understand certain concepts, or trying to keep up with all the new things that are changing in your field all the time. But it’s worth it, because it’s never boring and using your brain to figure something out rather than doing something simple is way more rewarding!

      No as long as you put in the work and do your bit. Also needs to be very organised and be able to follow protocols or standard operating procedures.
