      I’m not a psychiatrist 🙂
I am a scientist working in healthcare. If you go the doctors or are in hospital and have to give a sample of blood, poo, wee, or a swab of a wound or ear for example, I am part of the team that will perform tests on that sample to see if you have a bacteria or virus that is causing an infection. Infections I look for include food poisoning (Salmonella), COVID, flu and strep throat, to name a few.

During my medical school placement , I met a patient who was experiencing difficulties in their mental health. I was intrigued how the doctor was able to gain the confidence of the patient to share what I deemed very private but also extremely distressing at the time. It was the first time in medical school my eyes were ” opened ” to the interaction between the human brain , mind and behaviour . I found it fascinating and haven’t looked back since then .
I am also interested in people and love working as part of a team . Being a psychiatrist has enabled me do that.

I’m not a Psychiatrist – this requires a medicine degree and then specific training. I have a Biochemistry degree and work in the healthcare sector and am involved in regulation of medicines and medical devices to make sure they are safe.

I’m not! I work as a bioinformatician, this is a computer scientist who focuses on using computers for biology – in my case, DNA sequencing and data analysis!

Also not, but as someone who has been in therapy I really appreciate the work and how emotionally draining it must be!

      I’m not a psychiatrist, but I am a scientist! 🙂
I’m part of a team which tests blood samples, and sometimes wee and poo, from people who have been to their GP or to the hospital, and help to look for clues as to why they aren’t well. There are other scientists who look for viruses and bacteria, and I look to see if your body is working properly.
