• Question: why does your eyes hurt when you watch to much TV?

      I think this is because you don’t blink as much when you are watching something intently, so the normal fluids that lubricate your eyes start to dry out and this then causes a pain response to make you close your eyes or blink more. I think this is even more when you are playing video games. For me, I don’t have that problem as I fall asleep in the middle of TV programmes…!!!

      As a long term glasses wearer who works on a computer a fair bit aswell a big tele watcher I’ve experienced this a lot. I think in addition to what Bernice has said about the fluids in our eye drying out, if we are looking at something at a certain distance for too long the muscles in our eyes get tired. Naturally we are usually looking from long to medium to short distances a lot when we aren’t in front of screens but if there’s a screen there we focus for too long, muscles tire and then hurt like when we’ve been on our feet all day in the hope we’ll stop. But binge watching TV is sooo good.
