My Year 6 teacher did some amazing science experiments (he used to make fireworks to show us how they worked, and let them off in the classroom). From that moment I always wanted to be a scientist and understand how other things worked and why things happen.

I always had an interest in science but at school and college I had really amazing chemistry teachers who encouraged me.

My parents- they always encouraged me to do what I was interested in and fed my curiosity as a kid by always trying to answer the millions of questions I had on how things work,

I didn’t really know many scientists, either on telly or in books.
But, my grandpa was an engineer and he believed that I could do anything if I wanted to. I think my aunty who worked at the university, in Botany, looking after the plants is inspiring. She completed her PhD when she was 60 – you are never too old to learn.

My Dad was also a pharmacist (although he changed careers and is retired now!) and quite a few of my family members are also scientists.

My mum. She was a biologist, and she always spoke about what she did with incredible passion!

I don’t remember a specific person. My teachers at West Hill School certainly helped grow my curiosity in science at school but I just enjoyed the practical hands-on aspect of science and biochemical research 🙂
