I would like to help people understand science and see it as a fundamental part of life not a specialist subject and I also want to make sure that people who work in the cosmetic industry understand the science behind cosmetic products and make things that are safe, legal and effective.

I like to help people with their health and I believe that I have achieved this. I also like to help other people that are new to science.

I like understanding how things work, and I find it really fulfilling knowing that I may have contributed to our understanding of how the cells in our body work, even if only in a small well. I also take every chance I can to share science with as many people as I can.

I’d like to be doing this job for a long time so there’s a few things; I’ve been really lucky to have inspiring and enthusiastic teachers, lecturers and colleagues that have supported me and given me opportunities to progress as a scientist. So being able to put back into schools/university and pay it forward for others would be a big achievement. There’s always loads of awards you can win in science but I’d be happy to just crack on and improve the knowledge and understanding in the community and society as a whole. Although, don’t think anyone from Gateshead has won a nobel prize so…

I want to add new knowledge to bioengineering, to help make people’s lives better. And I would like to help more people find out about the amazing work done by bioengineers- that way it can help to solve more healthcare challenges and more people can get exciting jobs in the area.

The knowledge that the research I do could help people gives me a great sense of satisfaction, and as long as I am able to keeping doing that, I will be happy. I also think it’s really important to ‘pay it forward’ so being able to share my skills and knowledge with other people to help them is something I would like to keep doing too.

I don’t plan to change the world. I just want to make a small, positive difference by helping people get the diagnosis they need, quickly and cheaply if possible.

To answer questions about biology at the molecular level, specifically how particular proteins function in genome stability. Even if I can answer only a tiny aspect of biology, I hope to help in any small way.

In my research, I would like to reduce the impact of antimicrobial resistance on our planet. To engage communities with the right knowledge about ways to protect their health. In my teaching, I would also like students to achieve their academic dreams
