I went to university to study physics, and really enjoyed that. So much that I stayed and did a PhD too.

But I always wanted to work in a hospital really, so when I found out about the healthcare scientist training programme I was delighted – that is the way that people who have done a degree can work in healthcare science in the NHS.

The new version of this programme is called the Scientist Training Programme and you can find out more on the National School for Healthcare Science website. It’s great as you get a salary while you train. But there are lots of other ways into health science too. I hope that helps 🙂

I went to university and studied sports science. I took a year out teaching abroad for a year and decided I would like to go back to University and learn more, so I did a PhD in Sports Science. After that I worked as lecturer at a University for a year and then I got a research assistant position!

Everyone’s journey to becoming a scientist is different and there are many different paths into the role!

I went to univeristy and studied Neuroscience, then Molecular Medicine. After this I got a job researching blood and blood disorders. Now I work in reproductive genetics and health, so I have moved around different fields of science a lot.

I enjoyed chemistry and applying it to biological systems so studied Natural Sciences at university, specialising in Biochemistry. I then did a Masters and PhD in Biochemistry with cool research projects entailed to lead me to stay in academic biochemistry research, which is what I do now.
