I didn’t really know- I had quite a few ideas (vet, paramedic, teacher) but nothing really stood out to me as something I really really wanted to do. That lasted until I was about 23! Then I got my first proper job in science (Forensic DNA Analyst) and my career in science kicked off from there.
I wanted to be a professional dancer until I was about 14. Then I found out about medical research and something just clicked- I loved the idea of finding out new things about the body and trying to answer questions no one else had. I continued dancing but swapped my career plans.
I realised I wanted to do something practical, such as engineering or chemistry, at school and centred on biochemistry by applying chemistry to biological concepts.
