I’ve published a paper relating to my work during my degree last year, it’s a pretty long journey sometimes from doing the experiments to writing to having it accepted and published. Mine was started in 2016!! 6 years is probably one of the outliers
Research is usually published in scientific journals (there are many hundreds of these). Publishing research is a big part of most research scientists’ work, especially scientists in universities and working for government organisations (NHS, Public Health, agencies dealing with animal health, the environment, weather and climate, etc.). Full-time university researchers might aim for getting 3-5 papers published per year. Sometimes, we also write chapters for books. Many of my colleagues who are as old as me will have well over 100 publications.
