Not much as much as I would like to. But we do try to include patients or healthy volunteers from different geographical areas in clinical trials to see if our medicine works for people living in different environments.
Yes. I work with diseases that can spread between humans and animals known as zoonoses. Some of my work involves the habitats animals live in, or the habitats of insects that spread diseases. I also use geography in a different part of my work that involves dealing with infectious disease outbreaks and epidemics, where we map cases and look for links between them.
Bioengineering uses human geography when we look at producing new medical treatments and products, to make sure that these solutions are suitable for all people across areas with different medical/technology access. We need to do this more to make sure that this research is inclusive and fair.
