  You definitely need a-levels and an undergraduate degree. A lot of people have a masters degree (like I do) but you don’t need one in order to do a PhD or to get the job – it just helps. Most people have a PhD but again, you don’t have to have one to do research. Most of the people who get promoted have PhDs though.
