Almost. I certainly work most Mondays to Fridays. I don’t usually work weekends or bank holidays but sometimes if I have stuff to do for a deadline then I will. Or if someone participating in my study is only free at the weekend I can arrange for them to have their brain scan on a Saturday or Sunday.
We don’t have holidays like you have school holidays. I have 30 days “annual leave” that I can choose to take when I want. On top of that (and I’m very lucky because my employer, the university, is very kind) I have the time between Christmas and New Year off, so I don’t have to work 24th Dec-1st Jan.
If I have worked a very long day (maybe I’ve been travelling at a conference or I’ve had a lot of testing to do and had to spend up to 12, 14 or 16 hours in work, then I can take a day off.
Other than that, yes, every day! As Rob says, Academia is very good for its flexibility – most employers don’t give you this much freedom!
I go into work most week days. I occasionally tale weekdays off and go in at the weekend. Working in academia is great in terms of this sort of flexibility.
