• Question: BBshorty : @Rebecca have you ever done a study on other peoples brains looking at how they fall in love and how and why people get attracted to others. can you tell why people do or is it just random. I know people like others who have a face that is symmetrical and probably pretty but why do you fall for a certain type of person?

No I haven’t! I can’t find any record of anyone doing a study on people’s *brains* but there is some research on hormonal changes that happen during the process of “falling in love”. Certain hormone levels go up and down when someone falls in love. Some other people have done surveys of asking people questions about falling in love and they showed that there was a small amount of evidence that men are generally more love-prone than women. They also found that men and women were more prone to falling in love in different circumstances.

The symmetrical faces thing is just about what attracts you to show an interest in a particular person, and not what necessarily makes you fall in love with them. The love happens later.

There’s a theory of love that states that love happens to make a person feel a commitment towards another person, and this has been beneficial in the survival of the human race. But as for who are you going to fall in love with? That’s probably just individual preference!
