• Question: 1. how do x-rays work? 2. Is there any other way of seeing bones and brains other than an x-ray? 3. Why do you want the money-is it for a good cause? Thank you for your time.

      Oo triple points!

      1. X-rays work exactly like light, they are more energetic, higher frequency versions of the light that allows us to see. X-ray photons can penetrate through objects far better than visible photons, in the same way that thin sheets of plastic are kind of see-through (translucent) and windows are completely see through (transparent). Materials can be thought of as transparent to x-rays.

      2. Yes, several. Two come to mind immediately. MRI machines use a large magnetic field to stimulate a radio (a much lower energy and frequency photon but still a photon) wave then track the point of emission. And cutting people open.

      3. I want the money to improve the demos that go round to schools, universities, and museums. As I wrote on my profile I want to invest in a small experimental set up that demonstrates the power of lasers by popping balloons. Its something that can draw even the least scientifically interested to your stands and get them excited about science!

      And Katie, you are welcome.
