I do research with axolotls because, unlike humans, axolotls can naturally regenerate the injured spinal cord and I want to find out how they do this! Besides the spinal cord, axolotls can also regenerate large parts of their brain, entire limbs, the heart, pancreas, you name it! Their ability to rebuild lost or damaged tissues is unparalleled, so we have so much to learn from them. Seeing a new tissue or organ regrow in place of the lost or damaged one is fascinating!
