My job as a scientist is quite varied. For me, I work quite a bit in the lab doing experiments towards a research question – so at the moment I’m looking into recycling Li-ion batteries, but making sure the processes I apply don’t modify the materials, but if they do – I want to understand what’s happening.

When we get results from our experiments, we have to spend time understanding the results and then try and convey these results to others.

Other parts of being a scientist involves supporting the team – so while I’m a post doc (research fellow/next stage after PhD), I will support masters students and PhDs in their research. I’ve also been involved in teaching at the University.

Well, as an aquaculture nutritionist and scientist, I spend most of my time asking questions and trying to figure out how to keep fish, shrimp, and other aquatic animals healthy and happy.

I do a lot of experiments and tests, and I get to wear a cool lab coat and safety goggles.

So basically, I get paid to be curious, wear funny clothes, and make sure our seafood is delicious and sustainable.
