• Question: Would you rather be a scienst of this time, with all new eletrical apliances or an early time where not much things had been invented so that you could become very sucesful? thankyou

      Good question – if I lived 100 years ago it would have been much easier to make amazing scientific discoveries however we have much better equipment available nowadays and can understand things much better. As a result I would rather be a scientist today!

      I think science was more mysterious 100 years ago (and often more dangerous – chemists used to taste chemicals they had made to help them decide if they had made the right thing!) But I think I would rather be a scientist today – major breakthroughs especially in analytical techniques mean we have a much clearer idea of what’s going on so can work much more efficiently.

      This is a really good question. I think that it would have been very interesting to have worked in science at a time when the most important discoveries were being made. The fact that scientists were able to do some of the best work without the technology that we have now, is amazing and really interesting to learn their techniques. The techniques they used have been the basis of developing our machines and equipment we use in the lab today, so what they learnt was very important for us. In a way, I would rather have worked in that period in time, as it would be nice to perhaps be able to use our brains more to solve complicated scientific questions, and not rely on computers and software to simply generate the answers for us sometimes!

      I prefer being a scientist today, we have better equipment, and I’m not too fussed about being super successful. Also, there is plenty left to invent, we just need to think of it 😀
