Hopefully gravity will never change! How gravity is now is pretty good for life.
Our understanding of gravity should get better. I’d like to see what technologies we can make in future with our better understanding!
Fantastic question,
Ryan 🙂
Things aren’t always better in the future 🙂
We’re actually living in a very special time in the Universe’s history. In the early Universe, gravity was mostly the same everywhere (during a period we call ‘inflation’), and we think that in the future (once all of the planets and stuff fly very far away from each other) it’ll be mostly empty space, and so gravity will also be the same everywhere. We live in the middle of these two extremes, with lots of intricate structure, and complicated gravitational fields around many different galaxies and stars. It’s a really exciting time to be here! 😀
Gravity itself probably will not change in the future. But for sure our understanding should get better over time! For example, at the moment we don’t know how gravity works on the very small scales. Einstein’s theory of general relativity is a really good theory of gravity on big scales and quantum mechanics is a really good description of very small things. But there is no way that we know of so far to make those two theories work together, so something is wrong with our understanding, but we don’t know how to fix our theories yet!
